City of Stirling Administration Building Branded to Promote Recycling Reward Scheme
City of Stirling residents who correctly sort out their waste are being rewarded for helping to reduce the city’s reliance on landfill.
The reward scheme, known as the “Recycling Champion” program, awards a 200 dollar gift card to the winner at the end of every month until June 2017.
Judy Scott, Waste Compliance Coordinator for the City of Stirling, said the program was rolled out from June this year and so far three residents have been rewarded.
“We choose the winner by picking a suburb, and then we go out and look at 20 to 30 residential bins, we check for those that have been well separated and all cardboards flattened,” she said.
“We want to achieve a better recycling, less contamination, improved recycling rate and more diversion from landfill,”
She said most of the bins checked in Mirrabooka, North Beach and Stirling were found to be contaminated and, as part of the program, they will be going to educate students on better waste management.

A resident of Mirrabooka, Efua Sampson said it is a good idea to educate people on proper waste sorting and this will help enhance the recycling of waste.
“We used to have only the household bin till last year when they introduced the green and yellow bin.” she said.
“I am doing it right so I hope to get the reward too,”
She said the reward scheme will serve as a motivation for people to separate their residential waste properly.
