Four thousand hungry West Australians with a passion for international food and entertainment made the trip to UWA recently for the annual Spring Feast event.
Organised by the Student Guild at UWA and a major event during Multicultural Week, Spring Feast is a showcase of the diversity of the university community.
Spring Feast was held at UWA Guild Village and oak lawn, and featured more than 50 food stalls offering a wide range of cuisine; from homemade Mexican ice treats to Hainanese chicken rice, Spanish paellas and Malaysian curry puffs.
Justine Wong from the Multicultural Week Committee (MCW) said that despite being unable to secure a grant to enable them to promote the event, the turn out was still impressive and Spring Feast 2014 was a huge success.
With the large number of food stalls and so many willing customers, the MCW committee made food safety its top priority.
“The Subiaco council was very thorough ensuring Spring Feast was running according to all the proper regulations,” said Justine.
She said the committee ensured stallholders were prepared to show any documentation proving they complied with Subiaco Council’s standards.
Daryl Manoo, a first time visitor of Spring Feast said that he had heard a lot about the event and had been looking forward to Spring Feast at UWA.
“I had my hopes up about the event, and it didn’t disappoint.”
“The atmosphere and wide variety of food on sale I really enjoyed, top it off with constant entertainment held on the stage and it was a very enjoyable evening,” he said.
“We hope to make Spring Feast even bigger and better next year. We will use feedback collected from surveys to improve our events, possibly get more stallholders and some more great prizes,” said Justine.
“We hope that everyone will be able to come and enjoy themselves at UWA Spring Feast in 2015!”
