The Pink Ladies of Rockingham are holding a ‘Girls Night In’ fundraiser on Sunday week, October 26th, in support of the Cancer Council’s fight against breast and gynaecological cancer.
The group has organised a movie night in conjunction with Ace Cinemas with the proceeds going to cancer research.
Rhianna Hall, one third of The Pink Ladies of Rockingham, says this cancer is an all too familiar topic nowadays.
“You realise that there’s not really anyone you can speak to now that hasn’t been affected by cancer,” says Rhianna.
“They know someone, whether it’s a family friend or a relative, or they’re even personally affected by it. Especially breast or gynaecological cancer, they’re quite common”.
Another member of The Pink Ladies, Katie Burgess, says the group formed after a diagnosis shocked them all.
“We started doing Girls Night In when a friend of mine’s grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer. I saw this as a way to cheer her up and show support.”
This will be the third year that the ladies have held an event for breast cancer awareness.
“In the first year we managed to raise over $1000, and in the second year… we only raised about $300… but this year we’ve already raised close to $300 on bake sales alone,” says Rhianna.
In previous years, the group has held small parties with donations from local companies up for auction, but this is the first event they’ve held at a large venue.
“We’ve set ourselves a goal of 60 tickets so hopefully we can reach that,” she says.
“We are still in talks of doing a second event to raise even more funds…there’s a lot you can do for it just by holding a little event,” says Katie.
You can be part of this event at Ace Cinemas Rockingham on the October 26th at 6pm, with a screening of “This is Where I leave You”.
