In an increasingly stressful world more and more Australians are looking for other ways to relax and unwind from their busy lives.
One such remedy available in Perth is the salt water floatation pod, a device that allows the user to float in a giant bath of salt water in complete darkness, relaxing their body and mind.
These pods, which were developed in the mid 1950’s and originally known as “sensory deprivation tanks”, have now become a wellness sensation worldwide.
Ben Dunin, of Beyond Rest in East Perth, believes that anyone can benefit from the effects of just a one hour floatation session.
“This is for everyone. Most of our clients are FIFO workers who use it for stress and sleep,” said Mr Dunin.
He says because the pods allow the user to access different thought patterns, they make it such an effective tool for calming the mind.
“This is great for stress relief. It is designed to put you into a Theta [brain] wave state…which helps you relax.”
One Perth woman, Lee-Anne Clark, has been using floatation therapy for more than twelve months after a hugely positive first float, and vouches for its ability to de-stress and relax the customer.
“My first float was an amazing experience. My body relaxed. My mind relaxed. I remember going into a really deep [state of] relaxation.
“I’m a youth justice officer for the Department of Corrective Services so my job is extremely stressful. I need a float once a week to help me manage and to have that break, that reset before I go to work,” said Ms Clark.
With proven effects worldwide, and a growing interest in what benefits these pods can give to a person’s well-being, it seems there has never been a better time to step outside your comfort zone and try something new to help alleviate the stresses of modern life.
