The global fundraiser Movember is upon us and men everywhere are being encouraged to put down their razors and grow out the stubble to help support a worthy cause.
Movember aims to raise funds to help improve the lives of men affected by cancer and mental health issues.
Pete Kennedy is the owner of Kennedy’s barbershop in Fremantle.
He said Movember is a brilliant cause and recommends everyone to take part.
“A lot of people join in… it’s a great cause and we have supported it for years.
“However I don’t know how many people would shave off a beard and start again, that is what you are supposed to do,” he said.
Mr Kennedy said beards are becoming more commonplace.
He said Ned Kelly has always been a significant beard idol for men.
“People are getting a sharp haircut which shows they are looking after themselves, they add a beard to be more alternative and its becoming a very masculine thing.”
William Norton, avid beard grower for 4 years said growing a beard was a great way to support a good cause like Movember as it brings people together with a common interest.
“It’s a great show of manliness and support, plus you get to see what everyone’s beards or moustaches look like,” he said.
Kennedy’s Barbershop offers a variety of products and services for beard growers, calling themselves ‘beardologists’ helping any man with their facial hair needs.
