It’s been a mystery for a couple of months but today Uber officially launched their food delivery app, UberEATS in Perth.
More than 75 restaurants in Perth’s CBD and surrounding suburbs have collaborated with the rideshare company to deliver food that isn’t normally delivered or available for takeaway.
Old Faithful burgers – imagine having these delivered to your door.
An UberEATS spokesperson said the launch in Perth would bring food to people who can’t get to the restaurants they like or for people wanting restaurant quality food at home.
“People love to go to restaurants but sometimes can’t because they are stuck at home with kids or don’t have time with work,” she said.
UberEATS collaborates with different restaurants that aren’t geared up for delivery services to offer them the opportunity and give customers food they want.
“We’re the middle man between the restaurants and the people so for some restaurants that might not do delivery it’s a new venture for them.”
Old Faithful restaurant in King Street in Perth is one of the many venues joining forces with Uber to deliver their food.
Talmage Anderson, owner of Old Faithful, said it would help them reach new customers.
“Joining up with Uber helps us reach a broader market and is also convenient for frequent customers that can have our food delivered to them now,” Mr Anderson said.
“We have a small capacity of 65 seats and so with the delivery service it helps increase our capacity and creates a bigger turnover,” he said.
The UberEATS delivery service is free of charge and the company claims you only pay what you would in the restaurant.
A report in April this year from news.com noted the free delivery in Melbourne was only during the launch period but would eventually increase to $5.
