The Singapore Western Australia Network (SWAN) and Overseas Singaporean Unit (OSU), are organising the 2014 Singapore Community Day this coming Sunday, 21 September 2014 located at Matilda Bay Reserve.
All Singaporeans and SWAN members are invited to a fun-filled day where you can catch up with your fellow Singaporeans and make new friends.
“The purpose of this event is to engage with the Singaporean community in Perth,” said Mr Fozzil Jaffar, who’s putting together the entertainment for the Singapore Community Day.
“Reconnecting with the Singaporean community while being away from home is through attending such events where Singaporeans can meet, socialize, and interact with one another,” he said.
The 2014 Singapore Community Day will be an exciting day for both children and adults.
Nightmoves, a Perth-based band comprising of Singaporeans, will be performing throughout the day, accompanied with traditional and modern dancing, activities and games not only for the young but also the young at heart.
Singapore Community Day Event Chairman and SWAN’s President Mr Joachim Tan said: “The reason for organizing such events is to keep the Singaporean spirit here in Perth alive.”
SWAN and OSU have organized many activities in Australia to maintain that engagement between Singaporeans and their culture – through social events, networking sessions, dinner catch-ups, as well as movie festivals.
Singapore Community Day is possibly the largest event that SWAN and OSU have organized here in Perth.
“While it is hard to reach out to every single Singaporean in Perth, this event will definitely reach its aim of trying to engage with as many people as possible,” said Mr Fozzil.
“Everything happening at the event will make you feel like you are in Singapore again, with all the local Singaporean dishes like Nasi Lemak, chicken rice, fried curry puffs, and Teh Tarik being served on that day.
“It will be a huge event and there are many attractive prizes to be won.”
There are less than 250 tickets up for grabs online for a free entry this Sunday.
