A strong crowd turned out to watch the presidential debates at the Murdoch Guild Tavern on Monday.
Guild president candidates Kombo Mashumba, Andy Hunter, and Corrina McBeath took the stage to answer questions and discuss their policies.
While spectators might have been expecting “a fiery, great debate” between the four candidates, there were only three speakers on stage and they had more agreements than disagreements. The fourth candidate, Nicholas May, did not attend.
All three candidates expressed similar views on the need for more environmental sustainability at Murdoch and agreed that the university should be more transparent to students.
“They’re good candidates,” Mashumba said of his opponents. “I respect them and they should continue their campaign.”
The candidates told The Bounce they were pleased with the way the debate turned out.
“We had a good fair conversation and, everyone got their points across pretty well,” Corrina McBeath of Momentum for Murdoch, said.
The results of this week’s election are expected to be announced on October 26.
