It has been seven years in the making and now the world’s most beloved plumber is reaching new heights in the long-awaited game Super Mario Odyssey, which hit store shelves today.
Fans in the eastern States queued before the midnight launch while families in Perth made early-morning stops on their way to school to be the first to get their hands on the Switch game.
Critics praised the game after the review embargo was dropped last night.
The aggregate score on Open Critic sits at 98 out of 100.
“It carried ginormous expectations, but somehow Nintendo has managed to leapfrog over the bar by a huge distance. Offering the most satisfying game-play experience of any Mario game to date, Super Mario Odyssey is near-perfect,’’ writes reviewer for TrustedReviews Brett Phillips.
While still running and jumping, Mario is set to explore new worlds on the portable Switch system.
He has come along way since his first major adventure in 1985.
