Khurshid international students have lifted the trophy of the 2017 Murdoch Mixed Futsal Soccer Competition at the university’s indoor sports centre.
The squad defeated TBA 6-4 in the final match of the season.
Captain Kabir Ebrahimi said: “Our victory will lead our team to a greater future. In the next five years we are aiming to be the WA’s number No.1 team.”
Ebrahimi said Khurshid aimed to maximise its win by attracting sponsors.
“In comparison to other countries we are moving backwards when it comes to university investment in sports,’’ he said.
“Therefore we are aiming to encourage government to dedicate sufficient budget for sport development in universities.”
In the first half, TBA scored three goals – Toni at the three and nine minute marks and Richard at the 12-minute mark. But the second half belonged to Khurshid players who booted goals in quick succession. Abdul Rahman, Qais, Norbet and Walter all converted.
TBA captain Dani Rodan said of the loss: “It came as a surprise to me as our preparation was unmatched. We knew the opposing team has a good composition and we had shaped our training to counter it, but due to some unfortunate circumstance we lost the game.
“We are already aiming to be No 1 in 2018.”
The indoor competition, which started in July, involved six teams and 60 international student players.
